DU weapons are Radioactive Poison Gas Weapons that vaporize or aerosolize when they are exploded, forming a toxic gas (uranium oxide).
70% or more of the depleted uranium projectile is aerosolized, and the greatest number of dust particles are in the 0.1 micron range. Large amounts of very fine particles of radioactive DU dust are released into the air from pyrophoric (burning on impact) DU munitions. Very fine particles in the 0.1 micron range and smaller are invisible and remain suspended in the air, eventually becoming part of atmospheric dust. This sets a global time bomb ticking into the future, dispensing radioactive poison into the atmosphere and through the food chain via contaminated water and ingested particles for 4.5 billion years - basically, until the end of time.

Why Not Substitute Another Dense Metal for the Uranium?
Tungsten would be a possibility but depleted uranium is cheap. There is a worldwide problem of the disposal of DU tailings - there are an estimated billion pounds of this uranium left over as a waste product of uranium mining in the United States alone. The US military also uses the radioactive byproducts of the enrichment process used in producing atomic bomb and nuclear fuel rods to make munitions. The material is provided free of cost to weapon manufacturers by nuclear arms industries. Uranium from reactors, recycled for use in munitions, contains additional highly toxic elements, such as plutonium, 1.6 kilogrammes of which could kill 8 billion people. Rather than 'depleted uranium', it should be called 'uranium plus'.

"We're basically dumping our nuclear waste around battlefields of the world," said Dr. Eric Hoskins, a leader of the Harvard Study Team's survey of health in post-bombardment Iraq.
James Ridgeway, writing in Village Voice magazine said this is "an ingenious solution to the nuclear industry's paralyzing problem of what to do with nuclear wastes."

In other words, it is too toxic to dispose of, but it is converted to weapons which then vaporize to an ultra fine dust that disperses an invisible, tasteless, odorless poison all around the world. Brilliant idea. Convert our beloved Planet Earth into a glow-in-the-dark radioactive wasteland. Of course, our Strangelovian military denies the danger just as it continues to deny that DU may be responsible for the Gulf War Syndrome - or the epidemic of cancer, diabetes, and breast cancer.

Early use of DU weapons dates to 1973 when the Israelis used them against the Egyptians. The next usage was the first Gulf War in 1991 and in that conflict that lasted only 100 hours and killed fewer than 200 soldiers in combat, over 350 tons of depleted uranium was dispersed throughout the battlefield, both in Iraq and Kuwait (940,000 projectiles).

DU was used in Bosnia in 1995, Serbia & Kosovo in 1999 and Afghanistan and Iraq up to the present.The amount of DU used in Iraq in 2003 was equivalent in atomicity to nearly 250,000 Nagasaki bombs. The Israeli attack on Lebanon used/is using DU weapons: cluster bombs, DU warheads, missiles, tank rounds.

Fifteen years after it was first used in battle, there is only one U.S. government study monitoring veterans exposed to depleted uranium. Number of soldiers in the survey: 32. Number of soldiers in both Iraq wars: more than a million.

In 1993, the U.S. Congress passed a law ordering the military to research inhaled DU exposures. To date, they have failed to conduct the research. Known symptoms of exposure include heavy metal poisoning, lung & bone cancer, birth defects, kidney damage & skin rashes.

Doug Rokke was Director of the U. S. Army Depleted Uranium Project, and produced the U. S. Army Training Video ‘Depleted Uranium Hazard Awareness’ which very few soldiers have ever been permitted to view.

Retired Major Doug Rokke wrote a letter on July 26, 2006 regarding the use of DU munitions against Lebanon, quoted here:

'In conclusion: the President of the United States- George W. Bush, the Prime Minister of Great Britain-Tony Blair, and the Prime Minister of Israel Olmert must acknowledge and accept responsibility for willful use of illegal uranium munitions- their own "dirty bombs"- resulting in adverse health and environmental effects.

President Bush, Prime Minister Blair, and Prime Minister Olmert should order:
1. medical care for all casualties,
2. thorough environmental remediation,
3. immediate cessation of retaliation against all of us who demand compliance with medical care and environmental remediation requirements,
4. and stop the already illegal use (UN finding) of depleted uranium munitions.'

The vivacious and intelligent Leuren Moret, radioactive weapons activist, attended the 9/11 Truth Convergence in DC last year. She also served as an Expert Witness at the International Criminal Tribunal For Afghanistan in Tokyo in 2004. This worldwide increased exposure to radioactivity is leading to species extinctions as well as epidemics of diabetes, infant mortality, and cancer.

Thanks to her, more than 15 states have introduced a depleted uranium bill, and Louisiana and Connecticut have passed theirs. It has created a nightmare for the federal government and put the Pentagon on the defensive as well as exposed 15 years of official coverup and corruption in Congress under three Presidents. British scientist Chris Busby discovered this past spring by means of a FOIA request that Europe had been contaminated by radioactivity released in the attacks on Afghanistan and the Shock & Awe campaign of the Iraq War. This environmental epidemiologist spoke twice at the United Nations 2005 nuclear non-proliferation treaty review. Dr. Jay Gould revealed in his book 'The Enemy Within' that the British royal family privately owns investments in uranium holdings worth over $6 billion through Rio Tinto Mines in Australia. The mining company was formed for the British royal family in the late 1950s by Roland Walter “Tiny” Rowland, who was known as the queen’s banker and the master financial manipulator behind billionaire Robert Maxwell’s fortune.

The Rothschilds are also profiting enormously from their control of the price and supply of uranium globally.

The ubiquitous Halliburton just recently finished construction of a 1,000-mile railway from the mining area to a port on the north coast of Australia to transport the ore.

The role that such diverse groups and individuals as the Carlyle Group, George H.W. Bush, former Carlyle CEO Frank Carlucci, Los Alamos and Livermore labs, and U.S. and international pension fund investments have played in proliferating depleted uranium weapons is not well publicized. God save the queen from her complicity in turning planet Earth into a death star.

Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) is a term used to describe a munition with the capacity to indiscriminately kill large numbers of humans. DU is a radiological WMD and use of WMD constitutes a crime against humanity.

A 1996 UN Resolution banned DU as a WMD; the UN Human Rights Commission 2002 stated that US/UK use of DU violated The Hague Conventions, the Geneva Protocol, the Nuremberg Principles, the Charter of the UN, Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, etc.

'Why Weapons Containing Depleted Uranium Are Illegal'

There are two ways to determine if the use of a particular weapon in military operations is illegal. The easiest way is if the weapon is used in violation of a treaty that forbids its use and the State using it is a party to that treaty. If there is no treaty on a specific weapon, then one must determine if the use of that weapon would violate existing rules and principles of binding humanitarian (armed conflict) law. Under these rules (the "weapons test") – derived from The Hague Conventions, the Geneva Conventions, and all other sources of military law – a weapon may be banned if:

(1) it has harmful effects outside the legal field of battle
(the "geography" test);
(2) it has harmful effects after the war is over
(the "time" test);
(3) its use is unduly inhuman or causes undue suffering
(the "humaneness" test); or
(4) it has a harmful effect on the environment
(the "environment" test).

The first two tests arise from the requirement that weapons may not be indiscriminate. Because there is no specific weapon treaty forbidding the use of depleted uranium, the illegality of DU must be shown by the second method.

Weaponry containing depleted uranium (DU) fails all four tests. It is indiscriminate in geography as the effects of DU weapons cannot be contained to the legal military targets. Instead is air-born far afield of legal targets to illegal (civilian) targets: hospitals, schools, civilian dwellings and even neighboring countries with which the user is not at war. DU weapons are indiscriminate in time, and cannot be "turned off" when the war is over. Even with rigorous clean-up of war zones, the air-born particles have a half life of billions of years and can keep killing and injuring former combatants and non-combatants long after the war is over. DU weapons "kill" in inhumane ways, causing cancers, kidney problems, eye problems, lung diseases, and according to the medical researchers who have investigated it, many other serious conditions. Additionally, DU weapons cause disabilities in the children of those exposed – cranial-facial anomalies, missing limbs, grossly deformed and non-viable infants and the like –so in this sense are tetragenic. As these conditions can occur to non-combatants or may arise long after military operations have concluded, DU weapons are necessarily inhumane. The tetragenic nature of DU weapons raises the possibility of a genocidal effect. Finally, DU weapons unduly contaminate the natural environment, including water and agricultural land necessary for the subsistence of the civilian population far beyond the lifetime of that population.
