Desired Video Footage secured, Victory Declared

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To ActionLast night I was able to secure new video to replace the old one(see yesterday's statement). I was visited out at the street by a former director of MWA to whom I explained how much I respect Heather Booth and the MWA. I also explained my need to get some facsimile of what had been said before. My friend George Ripley and I did discuss some evidence with her. As she left, she said that Heather would talk to me.

I bannered from 5 to about 7:30PM, put the sign away, and had a bite at the Hilton, where the MWA was having their awards event. I waited outside that event, saw US Senator Tom Harkin and the evening's award winner Congressman Barney Frank leave. When there were only about a couple dozen people left, I went in and spoke to Heather Booth.

I explained how I needed a compliment to Julian Bond's less powerful words on video suggesting the undercutting of Islamaphobia would be slight. I detailed my recent efforts to reach her. I added that I wouldn't insist, but I would be happy to suffer in jail over Christmas to try to touch her heart.

Here is the transcript.

Why Are We Protesting Midwest Academy and New Organizing Institute? by Dave Slesinger

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To ActionDecember 13, 2011

What we asking for is the release of less than two minutes of videotape from a talk in October where honored civil rights activists Julian Bond and Midwest Academy founder Heather Booth answered a question. That question was, “If we could show Arab and Muslim people were not the culprits in the 9/11 attacks, wouldn’t that undercut the Islamaphobia driving our current imperial ventures?”

Bond eventually answered “yes,” and Booth remarked to the effect that any effort to lessen racial resentment deserves to be given a chance.

The organizer of the speaking event, the New Organizing Institute, takes the position that they have been advised by legal counsel not to release the video of the talk and Q&A. Judith Freeman, NOI director did add that the question I described above is not the issue.

I would offer to pay for the labor required to copy the short segment, but I suspect that my question is, in fact, the sticking point.

Gandhi is Too Much Ignored by American Resisters

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To Action(Nothing in this discussion is related to 911Truth)

(c) David Slesinger 2010

During the preparation the night before the Veterans for Peace arrests on Thursday, I raised the accusation that the American peace movement suppresses discussion of Gandhi's approach to resistance. During the evaluation on Friday, some opposition to such discussion came forward. Nevertheless, VFP president Mike Ferner assured me after the meeting that discussion of Gandhi would occur at a later VFP event.

Allow me here to discuss in greater detail why I hold that Gandhi's approach to resistance has more potential power than civil resistance.

Advocates of civil resistance are welcome to take issue with my following characterization. The goal of civil resistance is to have the legal process acknowledge that the criminals are in power and the protesters are more deserving of honor than being in jail. I have heard of it succeeding at times. I certainly admire and support any non hateful and non frightening arrest against war and injustice.

Gandhi's approach assumes great value in suffering to touch the adversary's heart. Advocates of civil resistance are polite, but see no value in such suffering. They are willing to serve time, if sentenced, but use normal legal maneuvering to avoid or minimize a sentence. I have been disappointed in the assertion that exercising one’s first amendment right is a reason one should not be found guilty of a regulation one violated as part of an open civil arrest. It seems weak to assert one should not be prosecuted for being part of a public protest expected to involve arrest.

Speeches on nonviolence from 2009 and 2007

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To ActionAfter having recent comments about nonviolence so well received on 911blogger.com, I present links to my 2 most recent speeches on nonviolence.

Here is a link to my Keynote Address at the We demand transparency conference in NYC on 9/13/09

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHwnXaPh6g4

I called for civil disobedience against the left gatekeeper media. I noted that the vast majority of those who do NVCD reject Gandhi, but are at least polite. I sadly noted that my own movement, 911Truth has serious trouble being polite, much less Gandhian. It's about 20 minutes.

I gave this talk in Dr King’s home town of Atlanta at the US Social Forum in June of 2007 entitled, “Nonviolent resistance in the US can be practiced with greater strength”

It's about an hour.

A Call To ActionI Challenge Your Courage, Brothers and Sisters

By David Slesinger
Printed January 19, 2009

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

The leadership of both spiritual and secular progressives finds it convenient to consciously or unconsciously suppress efforts to ask the hardest questions about the most important political event in recent history, 9/11. Progressive activists correctly urge each other to question authority, but they don’t consider it suspicious when they are urged by their own leadership to ignore government lies. My challenge today holds you grassroots activists responsible for the suppressive decisions of your leaders. (See Project Censored links at 911courage.org for evidence suppression by progressive institutions.)

William Pepper believes Martin would face the challenge of 9/11
Many of you are aware of attorney William Pepper’s efforts on behalf of King’s family to expose the lies about Martin’s murder. He notes, “Without doubt, Martin King would be in despair over what has transpired in his beloved native land. I also have no doubt that he would enthusiastically support this quest for truth about the atrocity that has shaken and drastically changed our world. He would remind us that truth crushed to earth will rise again and that we should never continue to mourn into passivity the loss of liberty and our loved ones – but organize.”

Every major institution in the US refuses to ask the hard questions about 9/11. Because of that reality, we as Americans DO NOT DESERVE to live in a free country.

What do I ask of you?

Am I suggesting you must stop whatever is your current focus to immerse yourself in 9/11 truth research? No.

Am I suggesting you must come to the conclusion that there was government complicity?
No.

I AM suggesting that you care enough about justice within the movement to help create a place of respect for 9/11 truth advocates and researchers in relevant progressive institutions. This doesn’t mean “truthers” are above criticism. I deplore the paranoia and anti-collective attitudes so prevalent among fellow truthers. We still deserve a place at the progressive table. Truther opposition to the current imperial wars deserves recognition.

The war in afghanistan requires embracing the "war on terror."
The "war on terror" requires suppression of investigating 911

A Call To Action

9/11 is complicated, but a few individual pieces of evidence can each alone prove inside job. These include the freefall collapse of the 3 towers (implying something other than planes caused all resistance to the collapse from below to disappear), the symmetrical collapse of those same towers (implying that ALL the points of collapse at each given level actually gave way within a fraction of a second), and the pools of molten steel found under all 3 towers (implying some other source of energy was needed to raise the temperature sufficiently, since the jet fuel burned off quickly).
Left Progressive Media Inside the Propaganda Model
INVESTIGATIVE RESEARCH
By Peter Phillips and Project Censored
In this study researchers at Project Censored explore the degree to which the propaganda model of understanding self-censorship extends throughout the media culture including left-of- center independent media organizations. We examine the deepening propaganda model pressures inside the corporate media and hypothesize the potential for these pressures to impact left progressive media in the US

List of 17 911truth action ideas

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To Action17 Action ideas for 911 truth (don't stop after the first 3)

1) Whistleblower bannering and leafleting as regards 9/11. I prefer ae911truth.org with fuller explanation OR patriotsquestion911.com standing alone. The content of the banner or leaflet would be a URL, or more detailed encouragement to well placed citizens to put saving the constitution before professional security. Targets of this would be federal civil servants and assemblages of significant professions and vocations as regards 911. These jobs include construction in all its levels, firefighting, airlines, security and police. That’s right. Go leaflet the police.

2) Whistleblower leafleting and bannering WITHOUT reference to 9/11 truth. Excellent statements warning of the coming police state have been issued by Dan Ellsburg, Naomi Wolf, Steve Lendman, Paul Craig Roberts, and Ray McGovern. This is something that can be done with mainstream peace activists. The focus would be federal civil servants and any security personnel who might be called in to work roundup. Everyone against roundup should work together!!

3) Assistance is needed for a specially designed website delineating both praiseworthy and suspicious activity of the FBI as regards the war on terror. I am not a researcher. I’m an organizer. Once we have a decent website, I have a catchy URL in mind, and I’ll go hold the banner at the Hoover Building . Contributions in research and funds to hire researchers should be sent to Dan Nalven PO Box 1132 , Ossining , NY 10562

Response to Robin Hordon/Defense of nonviolence/5 nonviolent actions

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To Action Response to Robin Hordon's attacks on nonviolence.
I first must complement Robin for having the courage to include me in his post. I’ve sought through Doug Brinkman to encourage Robin to debate me, and I feared he was actively avoiding me. I’m happy he is not.

Robin and I worked together a year ago leafleting for whistleblowers on a cold January afternoon outside the FAA in DC. Robin was given the opportunity to review the leaflet we distributed before we printed it up. He, of course, had a depth of experience in the airline realm. I assisted in preparing material he distributed in his own way at the convention of Air Traffic Controllers happening at that time.

I also have a general critique of the way nonviolent resistance is practiced in the US. In general, Gandhi's wisdom is ignored. I hold that the weakness of nonviolent protest in the US is because activists don't agree with Gandhi that they should not seek mercy. He always pleaded guilty.
I once met Narayan Desai, son of Gandhi's secretary, Mahadev Desai. He remarked that when his father went to jail, they would say goodbye by saying," Maybe next time you'll get a longer sentence."

It seems that Robin doesn’t agree with the UTNE article he links to. I do. The article says that there should be creative ways to achieve justice in addition to civil disobedience. Robin is categorically opposed to civil disobedience. He does not believe nonviolence can be anything other than phoney. This is not only misguided, but dangerous. Alongside the general resistance to discussion of nonviolence within the 911truth movement, his position is profoundly dangerous.

FREEWAY BLOGGING

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To ActionQuestions about freeway blogging arose in a recent conversation - legality, blah blah blah, after thinking for awhile, I imagined a pretty safe, effective way to "freeway blog."
One could simply fabricate a number of blank banners designed to be quickly "deployed," and then add graphics (paint, dye, whatever). Take a LARGE swath of fabric, like a sheet, hem in a 3/8 rod at top AND bottom, attach two chains with locking hooks to the top rod only. Works like this: design non-violent messages on banners, roll 'em up and hit freeway overpasses in high-traffic areas. It could be as quick as walking up, securing the banner by the hooks to fencing, and throwing the thing over the side (making sure the sign is not upside-down or backwards), move on. Even a half-hearted effort could reach hundreds of people before the sign gets removed... ?

CALL FOR MEDIATION

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
A Call To ActionBy Dave Slesinger - dslesinger@alum.mit.edu . Please post public responses here (911courage.org)

I have been removed from the 911truth.org grassroots contact list after having been an active truther since 2002, having given out over 55,000 deception dollars and having spoken on nonviolence at national 911 conferences in 2005, 06, and 07. The reason is that I'm seriously considering taking nonviolent sanctions against dc911truth.org, a group I co-founded, and against Webster Tarpley, a DC area resident. Before I take action, I will give the rest of the movement a chance to mediate.

I do this out of respect for the rest of the 9/11 truther movement, which could experience some problems as a result.
