What we asking for is the release of less than two minutes of videotape from a talk in October where honored civil rights activists Julian Bond and Midwest Academy founder Heather Booth answered a question. That question was, “If we could show Arab and Muslim people were not the culprits in the 9/11 attacks, wouldn’t that undercut the Islamaphobia driving our current imperial ventures?”
Bond eventually answered “yes,” and Booth remarked to the effect that any effort to lessen racial resentment deserves to be given a chance.
The organizer of the speaking event, the New Organizing Institute, takes the position that they have been advised by legal counsel not to release the video of the talk and Q&A. Judith Freeman, NOI director did add that the question I described above is not the issue.
I would offer to pay for the labor required to copy the short segment, but I suspect that my question is, in fact, the sticking point.
Bond did later graciously record, on two separate occasions, versions of his earlier statement, the second one being so different as to be close to the opposite of his original response. Even then, my protests would not be needed if I could get a recording from Booth saying the same as she had said earlier in public, but she does not respond to my attempts to contact her.
Obviously I’m not accusing these people who have done so much good, both Bond and Booth, MWA and NOI, of being racist – only that they are not being anti-racist enough. Another interpretation could be that they are just being intellectually lazy on the issue of 9/11 truth since so many of the activists they respect refuse to question the official story of 9/11. We have noticed at Occupy Wall Street events that rank and file is quite open to this issue while leadership is hostile to it.
The problem is that too many leading progressives reject the 9/11 truth movement without addressing the evidence. Intellectual space created to investigate this issue could end up creating a powerful position from which to oppose racist Islamaphobia. Of course, those who examine our evidence are free to decide that evidence is insufficient.

I have been a Christian now for over a decade. What that means to me is that Jesus wants me to love and forgive everybody. It’s a lot easier to forgive folks like Bond, Booth, Freeman and everyone at MWA and NOI because they have accomplished so much that I support. Gandhi called for satyagrahis (his practitioners of holding fast to the truth) to suffer in jail to touch the hearts of their adversaries. My adversaries here have good hearts. That’s a good reason for me to set a goal of touching their hearts.
My adversaries here are not significantly more remiss than the rest of progressive leaders who suppress discussion of whether the evidence exculpates Arab and Muslims as culprits for 9/11. During his book tour in Baltimore this January, David Swanson, usually no friend of 9/11 Truth efforts, admitted such evidence would undercut Islamaphobia. Video footage of that question and answer does not exist. In this situation with Bond and Booth, such footage does exist and is being withheld.
Our schedule for this effort is bannering outside the MWA Awards event in DC at the Hilton at 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW Washington , DC, on Tuesday 12/13/11 starting at 5:30PM until the event is over. We will banner outside the NOI at 1850 M St NW, during the next day, Wednesday 12/14, staying outside through their Christmas Party until 8:30PM. Since I have no intention on these bannering dates to trespass on private property, I would not plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge if I am arrested. I should be able to politely and quietly hold a sign on a public sidewalk.
If no reasonable accommodation can be achieved, I will enter through the front door building of NOI nine days later on Friday December 23 at approximately 3PM and be arrested for trespass. I time this in order to expect to spend Christmas as a guest of the District.
I expect to plead guilty to a charge of trespass or whatever reasonable misdemeanor I am charged with. Gandhi used to plead guilty as a way of showing he could can actually have better communication and understanding with his adversaries.
Allow me to reiterate that I am not only willing to pay, but pay generously for the release of the 2 minute segment. If Ms Freeman were to release the segment, that certainly would strongly substantiate her claim that the question I asked was not what bothered her legal advisors.
Let me add that I would forgo my request for such release if an agreement could be made where I am allowed to present evidence for an agreed upon period of time to some agreed upon number NOI and/or MWA staff.
