Response to Robin Hordon's attacks on nonviolence.
I first must complement Robin for having the courage to include me in his post. I’ve sought through Doug Brinkman to encourage Robin to debate me, and I feared he was actively avoiding me. I’m happy he is not.
Robin and I worked together a year ago leafleting for whistleblowers on a cold January afternoon outside the FAA in DC. Robin was given the opportunity to review the leaflet we distributed before we printed it up. He, of course, had a depth of experience in the airline realm. I assisted in preparing material he distributed in his own way at the convention of Air Traffic Controllers happening at that time.
I also have a general critique of the way nonviolent resistance is practiced in the US. In general, Gandhi's wisdom is ignored. I hold that the weakness of nonviolent protest in the US is because activists don't agree with Gandhi that they should not seek mercy. He always pleaded guilty.
I once met Narayan Desai, son of Gandhi's secretary, Mahadev Desai. He remarked that when his father went to jail, they would say goodbye by saying," Maybe next time you'll get a longer sentence."
It seems that Robin doesn’t agree with the UTNE article he links to. I do. The article says that there should be creative ways to achieve justice in addition to civil disobedience. Robin is categorically opposed to civil disobedience. He does not believe nonviolence can be anything other than phoney. This is not only misguided, but dangerous. Alongside the general resistance to discussion of nonviolence within the 911truth movement, his position is profoundly dangerous.
The irony, of course, is that I applaud all of his actual proposals. They are strikingly similar to what I do. On Christmas eve, I stood outside midnight mass at the largest cathedral in Baltimore to banner against Senator Mikulski’s funding of the war. On October 11, I bannered with the same person, Dick Ochs, outside of NIST HQ in Gaithersburg on behalf of the architects and engineers for 911 truth. We were so inviting and friendly that the head PR official came out and probably erred in his claim that all 47 stories of WTC 7 would be addressed in the coming report.

We proved that it’s possible to interact with authorities and adversaries in not only a polite, but even a friendly way.
This brings me to my strongest challenge to Robin. Ultimately, real nonviolence is potentially stronger in the area of civility than electioneering, lobbying, or civil suits. The reason it is potentially stronger is that Gandhian nonviolence, the least compromising of the various approaches, is a pursuit of truth rather than victory. I have stated more than once, I have no enemies, only adversaries. I am treated with contempt within the 911truth movement for such statements.
In common sense terms, the nonactive citizens justifiably assume that opponents of the government hate the heads of state. They justifiably assume that hate could somehow hurt them. They’re right.
I am so pleased Robin linked to the UTNE article. I am as open as anyone to creative variety, very much in keeping with the UTNE article. Almost the whole 911truth movement is profoundly hostile to my proposals. The movement seems to feel all the only thing worth doing is debating what happened that day.
My proposals are not just different. They have a theme. The theme is courage. That’s why I named my website 911 courage.org. All my civil disobedience ideas are secondary to these proposals because I respect the sensibilities of most truthers. I challenge everyone reading this piece to respond to this assertion,” The most important issue in the 911 truth movement is not planes/different planes/no planes no matter what locale. It is not thermate vs. directed energy weapons. It is courage vs cowardice. Citizens who refuse to examine the evidence exhibit a lack of courage. Debunkers who attack us personally without addressing the evidence can be described as less than courageous. I’ve been saying for months that American citizens don’t deserve to live in a free country. I want them to, but they’ve shown too little courage. If we have the courage and don’t display it, we’ve made the wrong choice.”
Here are the very daring proposals which people can help with at varying levels.
1) Whistleblower bannering and leafleting as regards 9/11. I prefer ae911truth.org with fuller explanation OR patriotsquestion911.com standing alone. This is a subset of the bannering Robin calls for. The content of the banner or leaflet would be a URL, or more detailed encouragement to well placed citizens to put saving the constitution before professional security. Targets of this would be federal civil servants and assemblages of significant professions and vocations as regards 911. These jobs include construction in all its levels, firefighting, airlines, security and police. That’s right. Go leaflet the police.
2) Whistleblower leafleting and bannering WITHOUT reference to 9/11 truth. Excellent statements warning of the coming police state have been issued by Dan Ellsburg, Naomi Wolf, Steve Lendman, Paul Craig Roberts, and Ray McGovern. This is something that can be done with mainstream peace activists. The focus would be federal civil servants and any security personnel who might be called in to work roundup. Everyone against roundup should work together!!
3) Assistance is needed for a specially designed website delineating both praiseworthy and suspicious activity of the FBI as regards the war on terror. I am not a researcher. I’m an organizer. Once we have a decent website, I have a catchy URL in mind, and I’ll go hold the banner at the Hoover Building . Contributions in research and funds to hire researchers should be sent to Dan Nalven PO Box 1132 , Ossining , NY 10562
4) Personally visit you closest Department of Homeland Security office or mercenary warrior location to explain in a warm, friendly way why you shouldn’t be rounded up. If you’re going to be anything less than warm and friendly, don’t go. If you do go send me a recounting of the experience. If they won’t meet with you, go ask your Congressmember or Senator for help arranging it. Do videos about your efforts.
5) Write your relatives and friends advising them what to do in the case of roundup. I advised mine to contact my Congressman’s DHS staffer and listen to the recording of Paul Craig Roberts on Thom Hartmann. I also noted that if there is no manufactured excuse to invade Iran , I’ll have nothing to fear. I did this out of respect for my loved ones. My relatives didn’t take it well. They are Bush supporters and Christian Zionists. I believe it was an honorable act. I believe ALL 911truthers AND all antiwar activists ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES!!!!!!!!

Folks,
All that is needed is an empirical review of the 40 year old peace movement regarding the relationship between its tactic and it lack of success. Then, review the 9/11TM in the same way and you will realize that this millenium's "protest-opinion changing" apparatus is well developed and far more effective.
The peace movement never fallowed thriugh on "long term engagement"...and that is the same for the 9/11TM...with the exception of a few of us encouraging citizens to get involved in governing and controlling their government.
Again, I ask that we continue to behave well in public, especially to those whom we want to change and bring on board, and then to NOT make the same mistake that came out of the 60s. We need to suggest that people get involved in their government, and I suggest that we encourage people to support election reform, and if nothing else, get out and vote.
I also suggest that if we can continue to behave well in public and take a position of "respectfully QUESTIONING" authority to get their responses for future use instead of "rudely" CONFRONTING authority which too often turns counterproductive, perhaps we can then take our streets actions...aka...CI [Civil Informationing]..aka...interactive vigils, conjoin the 9/11TM and the GOOD PLAYERS from the Peace Movements, and set up in the following locations:
...across the streets from churches on Sundays... [once we make this step, we will have begun the last turn in the race...]
...just outside school grounds at high school sporting or other crowd gathering events...
...outside professional sporting events...[its better when they win-so keep that in mind]...
...at shopping malls and other major pedestrian events...
...at large music concerts...[indoors concerts can be good because there is more pedestrian traffic outside the venues]...
...ferry terminals, mass transport trains and transit systems...[imagine putting a 1/4 page flyer on every seat on thh trains-good gorilla work...]
...major outdoor music events or fairs and the like...
...and of course, for those with large banners such as mine, overpasses and at other major people events where the main goal is to simply "be there" having folks read your messaging...really busy four corner intersections are great places...you can chase the traffic lights with your LARGE simple message banners...
After the assassination in Pakistan, and after Bhutto made the statement that OBL has been killed, and after Thom Hartmann seemed to begin connecting the dots surrounding 9/11, I invited "Hartmann Nation" to join the 9/11TM on the 11th of every month...providing of course that they behave themselves, leave CD and the faked up "non-violence" tactics behind and join cosmos and us with CI or "Interactive 9/11 Truth-Peace Vigiling" all across the world.
This is an invitation that we all should make to the MODERN players in teh peace movements.
I stand by my suggestion that we continue to build bridges to the Peace and other Movements, BUT with one caveat...that they leave all the failed tactics of the 60 ebhind, and learn some better ways to take back our democracy.
BTW...other than the "churches", I have bannered and CI'd at or outside each of the situations noted above. I have NEVER had a bad day [rain and sleet included]...not to say that there haven't been a few troubling discussions-which I smilingy ignored and "nodded away by NOT SAYING ANYTHING". In bannering in such public places, I've met so many nice people and have been thanked soooooo often for being there...for doing this...for being someone who "has to do it"...etc. Many positive comments and applauds are offered...not to mention that high volume of informational handouts that are dispensed. Having conversations with people who walk up is great...its alot better than forcing stuff and yelling at citizens...and if the messaging on large and tall-ish bannerring is thoughtful and productive, its amazing how many people read your message and think about it. Here is where we can make use of citizen's desires to end this war...so, comingle 9/11 TRUTH and PEACE on your messaging and you will be warmly accepted by most.
It is true that the higher the testosterone...aka...sporting events, the smaller the ratio of positive to negative commnts. But even outside the Seahawks ganes, I average 10 positive affirmations to every ONE negative. And on the other side, nearer progressive and friendlier events and locations, it balloons to 200-1 positive to negative. The overall avergage is 100-1 positive. Indeed, I have gone three Sunday afternoons at the Kingston Ferry alongside the Puget Sound before I got one negative response. So, if we message well, we can be very effective in public.
Thank you for all your time in reading this, and I do hope that you see the value of CHANGING THE PARADIGM from the 60s to the new millennium. The 9/11 Truth Movement's shoulders are big enough to handle this massive change, its what sits upon the shoulders that I openly challenge people to consider realigning. Lets pull ALL the protest movements into the new millenium, change them into being our own media and being our own educators, and more than anything else, lets give people something to do with this new knowledge...get involved-do something MORE than they did last year-join some type of "action organization", even if only via the internet-BECOME A TRUTHER...regardless of the lies that one wants to challenge.
The opening is sitting right in our lap...why repeat the mistakes of the past?

Um...it seems to have worked in the past, no? I seem to remember the names Ghandi and, Oh, I don't know, Martin Luther King, having some success with it.
Who's kidding who here?
